Have you ever seen a person take an enormous bite of food--chew twice then swallow it down?! There are a couple of problems with that. First, we are supposed to chew ~20 times before we swallow. This allows us to break down the food so it then digests correctly in our stomach. Second, it takes about 15-20 min before our brain gets the signal that the stomach is full then passes the message along to us.
Now let's get back to our friend devouring their huge plate of food. They clean their plate in about...5 min and don't even feel full. It is going to take at least another 10 min before the brain tells them--STOP, BELLY IS COMPLETELY FULL!!! Now the result is over eating (without even knowing) and sometimes indigestion.
Our final problem--in the U.S. our portion size is Completely too large. If you were to go out to eat, the average meal served can feed 2-3 people! so where do we go from here????
1st--- portion control
2nd--chew each bite

The is a picture of a girl that is 4 feet 9 inches wearing a MEDIUM WOMENS JACKET!!!! If a girl that size can fit into a medium size jacket, think of how a woman whose body actually is medium size build feels about herself! Having been a personal trainer for over 14 years, I have seen women, and men as well, come in with self esteem issues over and over again. The media often portrays unattainable goals and unhealthy ways of achieving those results.
Where do we go from here? Let's begin with what is really important- living a healthy lifestyle. Start eating well balanced meals, exercising and learning to love your healthy body!!!
